Graphic novels seem to say things to teenagers they can’t put down, which is why Kingstone Comics created 101 Questions About the Bible and Christianity, a weighty assembly of illustrations that addresses tough questions, such as where Cain got his wife, what the Bible says about dinosaurs, and whether aliens are mentioned in the Bible. Of some controversy are at least two themes: Where was Jesus for the three days prior to His resurrection; and what happens to people right after death.

For the latter two matters, it’s difficult to recommend this resource as-is. The author doesn’t fairly explain that some of what he says is a best guess or denominational conclusion versus other matters for which a clear Scripture reference can be found. The illustrations are powerful, but several would be gory and disturbing for pre-teens. Also, there is a panel in which a pastor is shown not necessarily to know what he’s talking about, which may be true or may end up casting doubt on how readers view the spiritual authority figures in their lives.

If you’re looking for something more solid, I’d suggest The Action Bible by Doug Mauss and Sergio Cariello. This resource may be more useful for group discussions about these matters.
