How can I hear God’s voice in my life? How can I know if God’s calling me to be a youth leader—to do something special for Him? In his book, 99 Thoughts on Hearing God’s Call, Johnny Scott provides some guidance for middle-adolescents asking these questions. The book is divided into nine larger categories into which Scott distributes his 99 thoughts. Some have narrative explanation; others have none. The most important category in the book is the section titled “Check Your Calling.” I appreciated No. 79 where Scott challenges the students to “Tell your parents about your calling, and ask their blessing.”
The 99 thoughts are fairly simplistic, but easily understood. There are two DVDs included in this five-week curriculum. The first includes five creative and engaging video sessions (ranging from 5 to 10 minutes) taught by Johnny Scott and Heather Flies. Topics include “God Is Calling You,” “Finding out God’s Call for You” and “What Next?” The second DVD is filled with promotional material, as well as discussion questions for all five videos and a video of Johnny talking with your leaders.
