Some of us have sung beautiful worship songs written by the Christian brothers from Taizé, an international, ecumenical group founded in the 1940s. Others have attended retreats at its French headquarters or its international gatherings (like the one that brought nearly 100,000 young people to Belgium for the New Year).
Jason Brian Santos, a doctoral student at Princeton Theological Seminary, visited the community many times to explore its spiritual DNA. The result is a thorough and compelling book about this group that focuses on prayer, worship, reconciliation and evangelism in European countries, where Christianity is declining.
Unfortunately, Santos largely overlooks the focus on young people that inspired founder Brother Roger and has been central to the group’s work ever since.
