Author David Horner writes from the context of a veteran, vocational minister, though the application of his principles easily could fit individuals in positions of Christian leadership. He lists seven challenges confronted in his own pastoral experience, which led to an imbalance of his personal, professional and spiritual life.
One nice feature of the book avails the reader to pick and choose those sections addressing the greatest need in his or her ministry. Each section is set up with an initial chapter to articulate the challenge, followed by a subsequent chapter offering the redemptive solution. A consistent theme expressed through the book is biblical balance, particularly amid a host of unrealistic earthly expectations and conflicting choices. Inherent in his prescriptions are warnings of the frustrations and consequences that come to those who ignore the need for balance in all aspects of their lives, not just their ministry.
