September 26-27, 2009, child advocates from an expected 50 communities and 200 college campuses will work to raise awareness of one of the most tragic issues we face today: The trafficking of young children.
The fundraising walk is being organized by Christian author Lynette Lewis and her husband, Ron, through their organization Stop Child Trafficking Now. Funds will apparently be used to finance “Special Operative Teams.”
“We were increasingly tormented by what we were learning about child sex trafficking in the United States,” the couple writes. “Being appalled and despondent were no longer enough; we decided we had to do something.”
According to statistics provided by the organization, more than a million children enter the sex trade every year; and the industry makes an estimated $32 billion annually. Between 14,500 and 17,500 children are trafficked into the United States every year.
