Bonding with Your Teen Through Boundaries
June Hunt with Jody Capehart
Crossway, 2010, 256 pp., $14.99, Crossway.org
Drawing from decades of teen, family and counseling ministry experience, Hunt and Capehart have put together an easy-to-use reference covering a list of nearly 40 areas of potential conflict with teens. The book’s purpose is to help parents navigate conflict areas by creating biblical boundaries that will enrich teen-parent relationships and help teens make good decisions. There are four sections: boundaries at home (back talk or “media mania”), boundaries at school (missing homework or tardiness), personal boundaries (bizarre hairstyles or money trouble), and social boundaries (gossip or refusing church participation). Each boundary discussion uses a scenario followed by an overview of biblical principles and suggestions for parental action.
There is plenty of practical advice here, and the format makes it quickly accessible. With more than 200 pages, it will serve well as a readily available tool on your bookshelf.
