This is a difficult little book to read, in part because the church has not responded well to issues of abuse and domestic violence. Weatherholt opens a very uncomfortable dialogue, first defining domestic violence, then dispelling the most common myths and tackling the erroneous assumptions we often hide behind.
The second half of the book is dedicated to utilizing biblical stories of abuse as teaching tools for offering support for the abused. Weatherholt offers resources for breaking the abuse cycle and raising advocacy issues, including an outline of a worship service to help address these difficult issues.
