My family and I had a blast playing Breakthrough!, a new Bible board game from Saint Mary’s Press. If you’re a Protestant, you may think the Catholic church isn’t accessible and doesn’t value personal Bible study, but Breakthrough! will prove you wrong! This colorful and engaging board game for two or more players, ages 10 and older, paints a new picture for those of us out of touch with the Catholic church.
Players travel through various biblical eras, meeting characters and asking who, what, where, when, why and how they are involved in the salvation story. Along the way, players are invited to find answers to questions by using the included Breakthrough! The Bible for Young Catholics. I see this game meeting a lot of needs—from bringing young Catholics into the story of faith to overcoming some of the prejudices and misunderstandings that divide Catholics and Protestants.
