If you’ve been concerned about youth devotionals that don’t go deep enough for your students, then get a mouthful of Chew on This by Dave Ambrose. Dave serves up 31 practical journaling moments that make students do the unthinkable; it makes them think. Each journaling exercise includes a generous amount of questions that are a great mix of practical and mind-stretching prompts, a space to journal and Scripture to chew on. Dave also includes an excellent primer on spiritual disciplines, especially journaling.
The bonus CD sells it for me. Options are a youth leader’s best friend. Having the CD gives the choice of a student listening to one the 15 selected devotions or of playing a session for the whole group. Like ice cream, Dave’s 31 flavors of journaling experiences will have students screaming—in a meditative way—for more.
