A debate of eschatological proportions rages on: Mac or PC? Which is the better choice for churches hoping to modernize the way they do ministry? Two new books from the Nelson’s Tech Guides series choose not to choose and offer one-stop shopping for practical ways to update the use of computers in the church, no matter the type of geek.
The guides tackle the greatest question for a church hoping to bring its ministry into the proper millennium: “Where do we start?” Each book covers a plethora of “How do we do that?” topics such as podcasting, e-mail newsletters, church management software, social networking, multimedia and more. You could fill entire shelves with books dedicated to the subjects covered, but the exhaustive guides sift the options and produce a look at the best tools for ministry.
PCs in Ministry provides an in-depth look at not only methods for using Windows-based machines to improve the church, but also the rationale for bringing change. Macs in Ministry does the same but focuses on using Apple computers and accompanying software such as the iLife suite. Those uncomfortable with technology will be overwhelmed by the volume of ideas presented. For the techno-literate there are few new ideas but many new suggestions for how to improve computer use in ministry.
Any ministry leader looking for modern ways to do ministry should start with these books. Now, if only it was available on the iPad.
