Players sit on chairs arranged in a semicircle. One player, the dog, sits blindfolded on the floor about 15 feet in front of the others. Beside the dog is a book; this is a bone. The game leader points to a player in the group, who then tries to creep or crawl silently up to the bone and bring it back to his place without being heard by the dog. If the dog heard a player creeping up, he points in the direction of the sound and if his pointing is reasonably accurate (a matter for the leader to decide), the dog keeps his role for another round. If not, and the thief gets back to his chair without being discovered, the thief becomes the dog for the next round of the game.
