When I first received this book, I thought it would be another “How to Raise Your Daughter” guide. I wish I had been correct. As the father of a 16-year-old daughter, I found it to be a sweet, melancholy reminder of the brief time we have with our kids.

Pierce vividly recounts treks to mountainous exploits, including an eclectic cast of characters, such as Encyclopedia Man, Goat Man and Santa Clause. He intertwines stories of his own faith climb that encourage us to remember the mountain is high, but the view is totally worth it.

After the first few pages you’ll be asking yourself, “Why haven’t we done this?” This book is not about regret; it is about capturing moments and taking risks. It’s about trekking with our kids through the rough and beautiful places of life, a journey each one of us can start today.
