Loyal readers of the Defenders of Hope series will welcome back their favorite characters—a team of FBI investigators, their wives and friends. Having not read the first two books made it somewhat difficult when references were made to previous plotlines and relationships. However, Enduring Justice‘s plot stands alone.
Hannah Kessler’s childhood secret comes out through an investigation involving sexual abuse and a white supremacy group. Other themes include the realistic fight for purity between Hannah and FBI boyfriend Michael Parker, as well as how whites and blacks share responsibility for racism and reconciliation.
It’s purely subjective as to whether Wallace’s repetitive writing style and lack of post-9/11 references will capture readers under 20. However, after weaving action, romance, personal struggle and suspense, there’s no arguing that she writes from a place of experience and research.
