As curriculum goes, FaithWeaver is well-organized and validated—Group’s been doing this for quite a while, and those who use it seem pleased. The leader’s guide (the primary focus of this review) includes almost insulting clarity in what the teacher will need and what he or she will need to do and say; but it also includes reproducible material (quizzes, papers for student, etc.). The bottom line is that you can place this material into the hands of a willing but untrained facilitator and the person would do a fine job.
The small “Tips from the Trenches” sidebar included in each chapter is a highlight of this curriculum. These are pithy and practical applications of the content of the lessons to the lives of middle and high school students. However, there is a danger when considering any published curriculum: If you use FaithWeaver this year and another product next year, your students may get those topics all over again! My suggestion if you use pre-published curriculum for your group is to find a quality resource (FaithWeaver is certainly one) and use it exclusively.
