Somehow the Faithgirlz series eluded me when my daughter was 8-12. The Lily and Sophie series have sold more than a million for the middle-school girl demographic. One of my friends, whose 10-year-old daughter loved them, said, “I was amazed at how in-depth and world-relevant the books were…the stuff we gloss over in our easy-going Christian culture was hit head-on.”

Fans will enjoy Dear Nancy, part autobiography and part advice in answered fan mail. She answers questions about writing, body image, boys, family, friendship, being yourself and faith formation. You almost can picture her chatting it up with a group of girls—she and the girls loving every minute of it.

Her newest series about 10-year-old, soccer-loving Lucy and her blind, widower-father include themes such as the death of a parent, friendship building, questioning God and authority, girly girls versus sporty girls, and relating to people of other cultures. The characters and dialogue are realistic.
