These two books are designed to aid leaders in guiding student discussions as they dive into the life and ministry of Jesus. While some might not need this much guidance, others would benefit from the basic structure. These two guides have nearly identical information and structure, but they present different examples and cultural perspectives that are age-specific.
Anger, cultural barriers, explanations of parables and healings are some of the topics covered. You might find the discussion questions, openers, closers and other exercises helpful in breaking down the Scripture passages. One frustration with material such as this is how little room it leaves for the personal touch of youth workers who often are weirdly creative. Of course, some will like the structure and guidance. One positive of the material is that it caters well to our busy culture, in which leaders might not have the prep time they desire. Users may catch whiffs of “youthy Christian cheese,” but wade through it to find solid truths translated for students.
