Bookstores are filled to the gills with career-oriented books: How to become a successful chef, how to become a successful computer software designer, how to become a wildly successful (and rich) Christian youth worker … it seems as though about the only career ignored is the world’s second oldest profession.
No more. Amanda Brooks, who worked as a prostitute for two and a half years, is writing a series called “The Internet Escort’s Handbook.” One volume will deal with foundational issues: “basic mental, emotional and physical considerations in escort work,” she says (we assume there will be a full chapter on fishnet stockings). Another will be all about, uh, marketing.
Brooks started considering this particular career path when she was in fourth grade, and she has no regrets. “How did I feel working as an escort?” she asks herself rhetorically. “Happy, satisfied, in control of my life; wealthy, healthy, at peace with myself, free, successful, and I slept like a baby every night.” Or at least when she was off duty.
