Everyone knows a good education is expensive. But preschool?

Believe it. A year at Los Angeles’ Center for Early Education costs $15,400. Tuition for Washington D.C.’s Sidwell Friends taps in at $26,790. And in New York City, a year at the Ethical Culture Fieldston School runs $30,440. No word as to whether graham crackers are included.

Experts say that preschool tuition has been skyrocketing, rising 8 percent each year to outpace rate increases at Ivy League colleges. Many upper-crust parents are growing ever-more worried that their children may fall behind their peers if not given every conceivable advantage.
