I had high expectations for this book because the author pastors the Imago Dei community in Portland, where Donald Miller (author of the phenomenal Blue Like Jazz) is a member. I was disappointed. While McKinley has a wonderful message about looking for God’s presence in the least likely of places, he spends too much time advocating theological positions (like substitutionary atonement and what appears to be hard line Christian exclusivism) that don’t really fit with his message of radical inclusivity. Still, this is a good book and definitely worth your time; just don’t expect it to measure up to Donald Miller’s works.
