The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that less than10 percent of high school students are eating the combined recommended daily amounts of fruits and vegetables. That means nine of 10 high schoolers are produce-deficient.
“This is a call for states, communities, schools and families to support increased vegetable consumption,” said a CDC spokesperson.
Meanwhile, New York City’s Education Department has prohibited school bake sales so that students consume less sugar and fat at school. The change is part of the department’s new wellness program.
