Throughout their teenage years, our students will face many voices that will speak into their identity formation. Unfortunately, as we all know too well, some of those voices are not based in truth, yet leave just as heavy an impression as if they were true. This fact is what led new author and youth pastor Ketric Newell to write Liar Liar in the hopes of helping students better discern what is true about themselves and what is not.
Using Scripture as his guide, along with personal stories from his own childhood, Newell does a great job of first taking students through the process of identifying the lies that impact how they think about themselves and God. Once the lies have been exposed, Newell shifts and provides great content and advice for students to take their relationships with God deeper and how to glean His truth for their lives. The author’s writing is easily relatable for students, and Newell’s energy and passion jump off of each page in a way that is contagious.
Liar Liar handles Scripture in a great way that makes it really easy for our students to understand and apply to their lives. Also, at the end of each chapter are three discussion questions provided that can be used by an individual looking to process the information more deeply or within a small group reading the book together.
Newell’s new book is a great resource to get into the hands of students, especially middle schoolers who are in the earlier stages of identity formation. Liar Liar will help your students grow in their relationships with God and deepen their understanding of God’s truth for their lives.
