I always have been a fan of discipleship—the kind of discipleship you get dirty doing. Discipleship is similar to football: You can watch tape of past games and know and quote your playbook backward and forward, but if your uniform isn’t dirty, it’s hard to prove you’re a real football player. In his new book Multiply, Francis Chan and Mark Beuving take discipleship out of the locker room and challenges believers to get their uniforms dirty in order to disciple others to the glory of God.
Multiply is broken into five sections with three to six lessons each for the lead person in the discipleship relationship to work through first before working through it with those they are discipling. The authors make the discipleship process easy: 1.) Teach what you know; 2.) Share life. That’s it. To make things even easier for someone to disciple another, Multiply has provided a website (MultilplyMovement.com) with a 5-minute video for each session. In addition, there are plenty of blog posts, video posts and extra material for the discipler to use. In the process of streamlining the book to make the discipleship process easier, it may be that Multiply does not offer enough structure, such as in the case of the weekly meetings or how to choose someone to disciple. That said, Multiply will give you all the material you need to challenge adults or students to start pouring into the lives of others.
