It is encouraging to see a resource such as the NIV Once-a-Day Bible. No longer will youth have to keep up with a checklist and thumb through to find Scripture to read the Bible through in a year. Reading the Bible through is becoming a trend among church goers. This new resource not only makes it manageable, but puts it all right at your fingertips, including a short devotional to help you not only read the Bible through, but to remember God’s Word can change your life. As a current full-time youth minister, I am excited about this new Bible! It will become a part of our ministry to give out to students and families.

I absolutely love helping the next generation get and stay in the Bible. This is a good resource for many in youth ministry. I can see a disciplined student reading three to four chapters a day, but not all students will take this initiative. This is a helpful recource to get everyone reading every day in the Word of God.

There are many versions of the Bible formatted in ways for users to read the Bible in a year, and I’ve read lots of them. For this version, the 365 days are broken down with day numbers rather than dates so you can start any day of the year. Each section contains a chapter-plus of Old Testament, partial chapter of New Testament, and partial psalm or proverb for all 365 days. What is new about this one is the daily reflection based on one of the sections of Scripture. This daily reflection is short–on average 100 words. Reading 1/365 of the Bible every day gets to be long, so this daily reflection is short yet insightful. That is a bonus.

The NIV Once-a-Day Bible is intended to help readers read through the entire Bible in a year. Unlike many Bible tools, this Bible is organized by daily readings that incorporate differing parts of Scripture so the reader can work through the whole Bible in a way that is likely to be easier. Each daily reading includes a short devotional, as well; and the Bible can be read starting on any given day of the year. I highly recommend this Bible for personal use and for use or as a gift for youth. The readings are diverse, easy to follow and manageable. This tool is very practical and the devotionals offer an additional benefit. I strongly recommend this product.

It’s hard to criticize any way that helps people get into the Bible, and this offering includes some well-articulated reflections that complement the Old Testament, New Testament, Psalms and Proverbs. Unfortunately, the small print is hard to read without concentration and may be a turn off to those wanting a quick study in their day.
