If you were skeptical about the ads promising that “Baby Einstein” videos would make children smart, you were right!
The Walt Disney Co., which has sold about $200 million of the “educational” videos a year now has acknowledged the videos don’t really educate children and is offering refunds to the millions of parents who bought the videos and related products.
The refund offer was made after the Campaign for a Commercial-Free Childhood and other groups threatened to sue Disney for false advertising. Disney agreed to stop calling the videos “educational,” but critics say that wasn’t enough. They wanted Disney to pay refunds to parents who had been duped.
In addition, the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that children under 2 years of age watch NO TV.
