Three decades ago, while backpacking through Afghanistan searching for top-grade hashish – not Christianity – Paul Filidis’ passport was stolen. He took refuge in Kabul with missionaries, there to help people on the “hippie trail.” They helped him obtain a new passport, and in time Filidis became a believer. Thirty years later, he’s still with Youth with a Mission, and his daughter, 20, just completed a YWAM mission to India. YWAM takes in almost anyone who’s willing to serve, provides training, and sends them out to serve. The recent attack by Matthew Murray on a YWAM group in Colorado reveals the groups’ vulnerability and strength.
