In preparation for Restorative Justice Week, November 14-20, Crossroad Bible Institute announces the release of a free Restorative Justice Toolkit for churches.
With this toolkit, the nonprofit, which provides Bible studies and reentry education for inmates, aims to help churches raise awareness of restorative justice issues and spur action among congregants.
The restorative justice movement challenges the prevailing notions of the justice system, regarding help for victims and offenders in a way that advances biblical justice and optimum care for the least of these. Restorative Justice Week provides an opportunity for churches, organizations and individuals to celebrate and advocate for restorative justice.
The toolkit from CBI contains free, downloadable resources for churches planning special worship services for Restorative Justice Week. It includes bulletin covers and inserts, sermon starters, calls to worship, prayers and song suggestions, as well as a list of CBI representatives available to preach or speak in churches. CBI is also providing a four-week Bible study for small groups, recordings of relevant radio programs and additional educational resources.
CBI President Dr. H. David Schuringa notes the importance of Restorative Justice Week to the organization, explaining, “At Crossroad Bible Institute, we are in the business of reaching out to the down-and-out, victims and offenders alike, mobilizing the church to be engaged in its mission.”
Schuringa urges interested individuals to talk to their church leaders about recognizing this important week. He says, “We are praying that many churches will rally around this key issue and join with us this November to offer a glimpse of God’s coming kingdom to our communities and to the world!”
