Taking a cue from lectio divina, the spiritual practice of reading, reflecting, responding and resting, Sarah Hart added an impressive experiential element to her latest musical offering. Though it is packaged as a music CD with printable devotionals, the experience is more of a guided spiritual journey, complete with soundtrack.
The skilled musical craftsmanship offers little to dislike, even for those who aren’t a fan of the folk-pop genre that Hart masterfully bends around ancient texts and original lyrics. Each track has an accompanying PDF with lyrics, a personal reflection from Hart and suggestions for how to reflect on the message of the song. If used wisely, the combined effect of the devotionals and music could be a moving piece for a retreat or worship service.
