Across Christendom the reports tell the same story: a mass exodus is underway. Nationwide polls and denominational reports show the next generation is calling it quits on traditional church. What would cause droves of once devoted followers of Christ to turn their back on their faith?
Answers in Genesis, the world’s largest apologetics ministry partnered with respected research analyst Britt Beemer from America’s Research Group to find out the answer to this important question. The results have been published in a powerful new book, Already Gone, authored by Ken Ham, president of Answers in Genesis, and Beemer. The findings of this critical study regarding a generation of “lost believers” is resonating with parents, ministry leaders and curricula publishers across the country, commanding a wake-up call to this growing crisis in the church.
As part of their research, Beemer’s group made more than 20,000 phone calls and conducted detailed surveys of 1,000 20-something’s who were once devoted church attendees but have since left it behind. The results were more than surprising; in some cases, they were shocking.
Research shows students who regularly attend Sunday school in a conservative, Bible-believing church are actually:
· More likely to defend premarital sex;
· More likely to accept that gay marriage and abortion should be legal;
· More likely NOT to believe all the accounts/stories in the Bible are true/accurate., etc.
This and other revealing data have generated an onslaught of media requests and appearances. An overwhelming response to Ken Ham’s recent “State of the Nation” Web cast/radio event conducted live from the Creation Museum near Cincinnati has prompted churches to purchase the book by the case to hand out to their leadership.
Once Ham and Beemer revealed the underlying factors that contributed to this crisis, they knew it was vital to our children and our culture to issue a specific call to action and give solutions for change. A portion of the book does just that and points to the solution for churches and its leaders—foundational teaching that discourages the teaching of Bible “stories” and underscores the importance of teaching that shows the Bible’s accounts are true from the very first verse.
Since its release just a few short weeks ago, Already Gone’s publisher (Master Books, an imprint of New Leaf Press) has already sold more than 50,000 copies of the 192-page, $12.99 book, showing an intense demand for faith-equipping resources.
Another recently published book by Master Books, The Ultimate Proof of Creation, by Dr. Jason Lisle (254 pages, $13.99), gives readers a complete guide to defending the Christian faith. Lisle, an astrophysicist who earned his doctorate from the University of Colorado, reveals an argument for creation that is so powerful and conclusive it has no true rebuttal—revealing the truth of biblical creation, the Bible in general, the existence of God, and the foundational aspects of Christianity.
Resources such as these two books are vital to Christians striving to effectively defend the Christian faith.
