More than half of 16- to 22-year-olds would rather lose their sense of smell than give up their tech gadget of choice, according to a study by the media company McCann Worldgroup. About 7,000 folks between the ages of 16 and 30 were given a list of items—including their car, passport, phone, cosmetics and others—and asked them which ones they’d choose if they could only keep two. Technology proved to be a hard thing for youth to give up. According to McCann, 53 percent of youth ages 16 to 22 would give up their sense of smell rather than lose their phone or laptop. The ratio wasn’t that much different with those ages 23 to 30, with 48 percent electing to lose their olfactory abilities. “Young people utilize technology as a kind of super-sense which connects them to infinite knowledge, friends and entertainment opportunities,” said Laura Simpson, Global IQ Director for McCann Worldgroup.
