If the tagline to Still Waters and Skyscrapers sends you fleeing for the hills to escape a dreaded cliché beast, take a moment to calm yourself down and consider that there might be something worthwhile lurking behind that hulking behemoth.
Dave Tomlinson approaches Psalm 23 from his many years in ministry, creating more of a memoir than an instructional book. Each chapter opens with a story that spills into a question about the 23rd Psalm. Despite its repetitive nature, the formula works and carries with it many epiphanic moments for the person ready to listen. While no huge philosophical ideas are revealed, it is the simplicity of the presented material that is its best feature. While the text may seem basic to some actively in ministry, this book would do well in the hands of those still maturing in their faith. To a person active in ministry this will be a relaxing read with new emphases on a well-known psalm.
