It’s difficult to find words that fully embody what God is doing when He’s doing something. The kind of radical life change happening through Steven Furtick and Elevation Church truly has transformed a region of North Carolina and set a higher bar for other like-minded congregations. I’m a grateful fan of this book and wholeheartedly believe Steven Furtick is rooted by a solid relationship with God that allows him to take us back to the kind of audacious faith to which the Bible calls us.
There were some issues with where he puts the spotlight, though. You can feel his heart is to illuminate God, yet at times he pulls the spotlight over to shine it on his church. Perhaps it’s intended to be context, but at times it comes across like a rock star sharing about his gold records and album sales.
I’m going to give him the benefit of the doubt on his first book and suggest you do, as well. What you gain in faith through this work is beyond critiquing his writing style. Furtick will kick you hard in the direction of a lifestyle that is as big as God instead of the smaller, tame version we may prefer to follow.
