Think the hottest tablet computer costs an arm and a leg? A Chinese teen was able to buy one for the price of an internal organ. Selling organs isn’t legal even in China, but the 17-year-old boy named Zheng found a buyer on the Internet who was willing to fork over $3,400 for a kidney. Because Zheng apparently had a kidney to spare, he took a train to China’s Hunan province where the organ was removed under the supervision of a kidney-selling agent. His parents, who had no idea what their son was doing with his spare time (or body parts), became suspicious when Zheng returned home with an iPad 2, an iPhone and a mysterious scar across his abdomen.
