McDowell spends the bulk of The Last Christian Generation reporting studies and statistics that show how the church has failed to build foundational truths into the lives of young people. As a result, students have fully embraced the relativistic worldview of our culture.

McDowell’s solution is to build biblically foundational truth into the lives of students though relationship and experiential learning. Although McDowell does a good job of setting up the need for a radical shift in the way we approach ministry to students, he does little to provide answers. At times, the book seems more like an advertisement for his latest line of curriculum than an offering of practical principles for reaching a postmodern generation.
