The Mockingbird Parables
Matt Litton
Thomas Nelson, 2010, 320 pp., $14.99

In the religious world, we become accustomed to certain jargon. Parables, however, jar us out of our man-made realities and help us encounter God through story. Matt Litton through The Mockingbird Parables offers just such an encounter. The Mockingbird Parables explores Harper Lee’s classic To Kill a Mockingbird. Litton talks about the need for community presented in the novel, the look of true courage, the role of women in faith and the call for creation care issued in the book, among others lessons.

You do not have to read To Kill a Mockingbird to understand the book, but a pre-reading of the novel will enhance your interest and understanding greatly. This book tackles the need to communicate the gospel continually through relevant means. Those interested in literature, in communicating the gospel afresh or in Christian education would do well to study this book.
