In short, this is an easy-to-read Bible translation with some commentary that will appeal to students. The Way: New Living Translation is an update of The Way Bible that decades ago spoke to teenagers by connecting the words of God with the words of culture. The reader may get the sense through the editorial thoughts that they have a friend who is taking them aside, as if to say, “This next part of the Bible is sort of like this…” Part of that includes a QR code that when scanned will take them to a website filled with extended commentary.
I appreciate this approach, especially because the end of the Bible contains several features that will help students find their way into the Bible on their own. I’d like to see this structure offered for other translations beside the NLT, but the core idea of the format is strong.
