High-tech gadgets are the hottest gifts this year – for those ages 3 and up. Retail outlets are catering to younger consumers who want to mimic their parents and aren’t satisfied with the faux variety of generations past.
The Smart Cycle, an exercise bike attached to a video educational game, is a leader in technological products targeted to the junior market. What’s more, the industry doesn’t refer to the “toy business” anymore so much as the “family entertainment business.”
The trend is on the upswing, particularly during the last 12 months, and that has pediatricians and educators concerned. They say “screen time” stifles imagination, but these savvy consumers are very aware of alternate products that are, or are becoming, obsolete.
