Apple and other companies contract their manufacturing work to firms in China and elsewhere. One of these firms, Foxconn, has been in the news for its harsh work conditions and long hours. Some news reports said the company had installed protective netting to prevent employees from jumping to their death. Pressure has been mounting on Apple to improve working conditions.
