What Do I Do When Teenagers Question Their Sexuality?
What Do I Do When Teenagers Struggle with Eating Disorders?
By Steven Gerali
Zondervan/Youth Specialties, 2010, 144 pp., $6.99
We often run into unexpected issues with adolescents. When approaching the unfamiliar, there are resources that will provide some much-needed guidance. In former YouthWorker Journal columnist Steven Gerali’s series, “What Do I Do When…” the questions to which you need answers are confronted. Two new additions to the series by Youth Specialties are: What Do I Do When Teenagers Struggle with Eating Disorders? and What Do I Do When Teenagers Question Their Sexuality?
If you don’t have time to read the book cover to cover, start with the issue about which you need information, then skip to the theology section. Also, another particularly helpful component is the section devoted to resources. It is so valuable to have a list of trusted resources when you’re preparing to talk to a teen, parent or family that is in the midst of a crisis.
If you get the chance, revisit the rest of the book. This series is all about providing practical advice. All the books in the series are quick reads. They are informative while excluding excessive details. Keep in mind that reading a 130-page paperback does not make anyone an expert. Always encourage families to find individuals who are trained and able to provide help in times of great need.
