You’ve seen writer Jonathan Merritt in YouthWorker Journal, this eJournal, Christianity Today and elsewhere; but after Merritt supported Chik-fil-A’s stance against gay marriage, he was outed by Azariah Southworth, an ex-evangelical gay activist.
Merritt is a critic of Christians who turn sexual issues into culture war battle plans, as heargued in YouthWorker Journal.
Youth workers and YouthWorker Journal contributors generally have praised Merritt’s latest book, A Faith of Our Own: Following Jesus Beyond the Culture Wars.
So it was surprising when Merritt was outed by Azariah Southworth, who formerly hosted an evangelical TV show in Nashville before coming out as gay. See Southworth’s claims in the Religion News Godcast and on Southworth’s blog.
Click here for Merritt’s reply, which discusses his sexual abuse as a youth and acknowledges inappropriate physical contact with a blogger in 2009.
