Dan Miller and Jared Angaza
Thomas Nelson, 2012, 272 pp., $16.99
Dan Miller and Jared Angaza are very different individuals who have found success through very different paths. What this father-son team has in common is ambition, and it’s that ambition for getting more out of life (and giving back) that they share here.
Their mission statement is: “The wisdom of the past can blend with the passion of the current generation in accomplishments that are socially significant, humanitarian, noble and purposeful and yet still personally and economically responsible.” They make a point of overcoming the assumption that wisdom or passion are exclusive to either generation, but for the most part that is their premise.
Wisdom Meets Passion reads more as a business management book than the rallying cry of intergenerational cooperation it sets out to be. The lofty goal of finding ways to bring our generations together to collaborate and make a difference for the kingdom of God is a more than worthy topic to tackle in a book; unfortunately, this falls short of that target. If you or someone you know is wading ambiguous waters of business entrepreneurism blending with life goals and passions, this might be a good book to take a look at. However, for youth workers, you’ll find little here in the way of helpful wisdom or inspiring passion as it pertains to intergenerational ministry.
