Finding a devotional book for teenage girls that is relevant, thought-provoking and connects meaningfully to God’s Word can be a challenge. In her book Your Beautiful Heart, fashion journalist Lauren Scruggs rose to that challenge and nailed it! After an accident that physically changed the way she looked, Scruggs struggled to understand beauty. Scruggs shares 31 reflections on what it means to have a beautiful heart. Each reflection includes a personal story, a lesson from God’s Word, a one-nugget takeaway and a few questions on which to reflect. Scruggs’ writing not only relates to teenagers, but it’s easy to see she understands the teenage heart. Her stories are funny, honest and thought-provoking. While many devotional books tend to be brief and just touch the surface, Scruggs does a great job digging a little deeper. Topics within the book include body image, friendships, trust, peer pressure, self-worth, serving, trusting God’s plan and more. This would be a great book to share with teenage girls who are struggling to understand their identity, what true beauty is, and what God has to say about the way they live their lives. It also could be used in a small group setting as Scruggs provides some great discussion questions at the end of each section.
