The United States lags behind other developed nations in sending its kids to preschool, according to a recent study. While about two-thirds of 3- and 4-year-olds are enrolled in early childhood education, that’s well behind the 88 percent average enroll rate from the 34 countries that were part of the study.
“There is increasing awareness of the key role that early childhood education plays in the cognitive and emotional development of the young,” read the report from the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development. “As a result, ensuring the quality of early childhood education and care has become a policy priority in many countries.” (Associated Press)
