Mattel will manufacture a bald fashion doll especially designed for girls with cancer. According to the toy company, the doll will be a friend of Barbie’s and will include wigs, hats, scarves and other accessories to give children a “traditional fashion play experience.” The company will donate the dolls to children’s hospitals and cancer foundations, but won’t make them available in stores. The doll was made at least in part due to pressure put on the company by the Beautiful and Bald Barbie! Facebook page. “We thought it would be popular with plenty of people, but we did not expect it to balloon the way it did across the world and throughout the media,” said Jane Bingham, the group’s co-founder. “They wouldn’t have heard us if it was just a couple of people writing to them.” (CBS News)
