The student senate at Baylor University is asking the Christian school to remove language from its student conduct policies that single out homosexual activity.
Currently, Baylor’s policy declares sexuality as being a gift from God, and that “missuses of God’s gift will be understood to include but not limited to, sexual abuse, sexual harassment, sexual assault, incest, adultery, fornication and homosexual acts.” The senate would like to strike “homosexual acts” and replace it with “non-marital consensual deviate sexual intercourse.”
“It is not saying Baylor is OK with homosexuality, or that students will all of a sudden be more welcoming,” says Jailyn Parnell, a sophomore at the university. “It is saying we are not going to pinpoint homosexuality. It is saying homosexual acts are wrong, but heterosexual acts committed outside of marriage are also wrong. It is making it more equal.” (USA Today)
