With Jon Stewart having signed off Aug. 6, 2015, as comedian/anchor for Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show,” pundits are opining about Stewart’s legacy and questioning what he was exactly. A comedian? Journalist? Something in between? Perhaps it’s telling that Stewart’s “Daily Show” set is being donated to and will be displayed in the Newseum—a Washington D.C.-based institution that chronicles journalism throughout American history.
“We are thrilled to accept the donation of these artifacts to the Newseum collection,” says Cathy Trost, the museum’s vice president of exhibits and programs. “They are part of America’s cultural and media history, telling an important story about how political satire and news as humor made ‘The Daily Show’ a trusted news source for a generation.” (Los Angeles Times)
