Teens who send and/or receive sexually explicit messages via their smartphones are more likely to engage in sex itself, according to a new survey in Los Angeles. The survey, which encompassed more than 1,800 teens ages 12 to 18 (three-quarters of whom either owned or had regular access to a cell phone) found that kids who had sexted were seven times more likely to be sexually active than their peers. Only 15 percent of teens reported sexting, but those rates went up among African-American and gay teens. (Time)
