The Oscar—that golden statue handed out Sunday night—is among the most coveted honors in the world. Some Hollywood actors, writers and directors work their whole lives just to touch one, yet many never do. The Oscar statue itself is worth $400—a fraction of what the gift bags handed out during the ceremonies are worth.
Each bag contains vouchers for extravagant vacations, luxurious accessories, and this year a $20,000 gift certificate to consult with semi-famed mystic Olessia Kantor regarding the recipients’ 2015 horoscopes, discuss their dreams or practice what Time describes as (no joke) mind-control techniques. The whole bag is worth an estimated $125,000.
That said, the Oscar is worth more than its monetary value—likely more than a gift bag. In 2011, the statue Orson Wells won for writing Citizen Kane was sold at auction for $861,542. (Time)
