Pressure is building on the toy maker Mattel to release a bald version of its iconic Barbie doll as an effort to support young cancer patients. A Facebook drive has gathered more than 100,000 “likes,” and support continues to grow. The movement was started in part by Beckie Sypin, whose 12-year-old daughter lost her hair to chemotherapy. “My daughter handled the baldness really well, but there were other little girls we met throughout treatment and it was harder for them,” Sypin said. “They said losing their hair was the hardest part of it all.” She hopes a bald Barbie might help other children feel less self-conscious.
