If you were following social media in Kentucky, you might’ve heard something about a movie-style purge set to take place in Louisville beginning at 8 p.m. Aug. 15. According to a poster circulated through Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, Louisville authorities would allow crime to run rampant until 6:30 the next morning.
The purge proved to be a non-issue (and rumors of a giraffe let loose by the zoo proved to be erroneous), and the posters were apparently the work of one bored teen who since has apologized. “I didn’t think it would really get that serious,” he later told a local television station. “It was wrong for me to do that.” (New York Daily News)
