The Best Friends list, which registers the top three people with whom a user exchanges pictures, is still around but is no longer public. Teens say this is a problem because the Best Friends list was a reliable way to see who was hanging out together. It has become a tool to determine popularity, as well as a way for boys and girls to spy on their old/current flames.
The change sparked scads of angry Twitter messages—and a few sarcastic ones. “OMG they got rid of viewing people’s snapchat best friends?” tweeted @Caspar_Lee. “How am I going to jump to conclusions about other people’s relationships now?” Angry Snapchatters can breathe a sigh of relief: The network’s CEO says the Best Friends list will be public again in the near future.
